Abdulelah S. Alshehri recently delivered a keynote lecture at the ChemLLMathon® 2024 webinar as a part of the ChemIndix 2024 conference, titled “Towards Advancing Process Systems Engineering with LLMs.” The talk highlighted how Large Language Models are reshaping Process Systems Engineering (PSE) through innovative applications in design, optimization, control, and sustainability analysis. Drawing on advanced probabilistic models, sophisticated frameworks, and hybrid approaches, the talk addressed challenges like multiscale modeling, data heterogeneity, and system complexity. Reflecting on four decades of AI progress in PSE, the forward-looking talk discussed how LLMs can enhance systems engineering, systems thinking, and complex decision-making, ultimately guiding the field toward the next generation of sustainable and innovative engineering practices.
